Referral programs for mobile games
A mobile game referral program credits the player who invited a friend and rewards them when the friend gets going. We match installs that follow a tap on an invite link to the inviting player and send your game server a signed referral.claimed webhook. Your server grants the gems, coins or gift.
How it works
Give each player an invite link
Create a referral link for your app per player, and store its link id with the player record. The slug can double as a friend code the player reads out in chat.
Open the game where the invite points
The first launch reads the invitation and routes the new player to the lobby, clan or gift the link named, instead of the title screen.
Claim after the tutorial
Call claimReferral with your own player id once the new player finishes the tutorial or reaches level two, inside the credit window. The reward then follows a real action and not a download.
Grant from the webhook on your server
Verify the signature, skip event ids you have handled, and look up the inviter from data.link.id. Your game server credits the currency. The economy stays in your hands.
Cap rewards per inviter
Set a limit in your own backend, such as a maximum number of rewarded friends per season. Key each grant on the installer id so a retry grants once.
Read results in the Referrals report
The report lists each credited referral with its match and status. Compare invite links next to your creator and campaign links.
Read the invitation and claim it
import WarpLink
// First screen: offer the invitation paste.
WarpLinkPasteButton { result in
if case .success(let link) = result, link != nil { showInvitationApplied() }
}
// After sign-up: credit the invite with your own id for the new user.
WarpLink.claimReferral(installerId: user.warplinkId) { result in
guard case .success(let claim) = result, claim.status == .claimed else { return }
// Recorded. Your webhook grants the reward.
}// Nothing to paste on Android: the Play install referrer carries the invitation.
// After sign-up: credit the invite with your own id for the new user.
WarpLink.claimReferral(user.warplinkId) { result ->
result.onSuccess { claim ->
if (claim.status == ReferralClaimStatus.CLAIMED) {
// Recorded. Your webhook grants the reward.
}
}
}import { WarpLink } from '@warplink/react-native'
// The person pastes the invitation into a field on your onboarding screen.
const link = await WarpLink.redeemInvitation(pastedText)
if (link) showInvitationApplied()
// After sign-up: credit the invite with your own id for the new user.
const claim = await WarpLink.claimReferral(user.warplinkId)
if (claim.status === 'claimed') {
// Recorded. Your webhook grants the reward.
}import 'package:warplink_flutter/warplink_flutter.dart';
// The person pastes the invitation into a field on your onboarding screen.
final link = await WarpLink.redeemInvitation(pastedText);
if (link != null) showInvitationApplied();
// After sign-up: credit the invite with your own id for the new user.
final claim = await WarpLink.claimReferral(user.warplinkId);
if (claim.status == ReferralClaimStatus.claimed) {
// Recorded. Your webhook grants the reward.
}What you get
- Linking
- A referral link for each player on your app's aplnk.to address or a custom domain, an invitation page for iPhone players who do not have the game yet, and a destination that opens the lobby or clan.
- Attribution
- Each claim credits the install that follows a tap on the invite link, with the match method and an exact flag. The first valid claim for an installer is the one credited.
- Analytics
- The Referrals report lists claims newest first. The same data is on REST at GET /v1/referrals and over MCP with list_referrals.
Common questions
Who grants the in-game currency?
Your game server does. We send a signed webhook when a claim is recorded, and your server applies your own rules for the amount, the cap and the timing.
Can the invite open a specific lobby?
Yes. The link destination and custom parameters travel with the invitation, so the new player lands on the lobby, clan or gift the inviter chose.
Can the link slug act as a friend code?
Yes. Create the link with the friend code as its slug. The webhook names the link, so your server maps the slug to the same player your code lookup returns.
Are there store rules for rewards in games?
Yes. Read the current store guidelines on rewards and in-game currency before you design the reward. Our guide to the store rules for referral rewards lists what to check.
Does it work in Flutter and React Native games?
Yes. The SDKs for iOS, Android, React Native and Flutter share the same claim call. Use SDK 1.2.0 or later.
