Bitly Alternative for Mobile Deep Linking and Install Attribution
Bitly is a link shortener. Compare it with WarpLink on mobile deep links, deferred deep links, install attribution, and price, including when Bitly wins.
TL;DR: Bitly is a link shortener with broad web marketing features. Its mobile deep links start on Premium at $199 per month billed annually, and reporting of app installs from those links is listed only on Enterprise, as of October 2026. WarpLink is link infrastructure for mobile teams. It puts deep linking, deferred deep links, install attribution, and real-time analytics in every plan, starting at $0 for 10,000 clicks a month. Pick WarpLink when links must open the app, survive the install, and report installs. Pick Bitly for web short links and QR codes. Create a free account to test the journey on your own app.
Bitly vs WarpLink at a Glance
Bitly and WarpLink start from different jobs. Bitly shortens and manages links for marketing teams. WarpLink routes a tap into your app, carries it through the install, and reports the result. The table below compares them on the points a mobile team checks first. Every Bitly cell comes from Bitly's own pages, listed in Sources.
| WarpLink | Bitly | |
|---|---|---|
| Free tier | $0, 10,000 clicks per month | $0, five links per month, unlimited clicks |
| Entry price | $19 per month (Starter) | $10 per month billed annually (Core), no deep links |
| Cheapest plan with mobile deep links | Free plan, then $19 per month for more volume | $199 per month billed annually, or $300 billed monthly (Premium) |
| Deep linking (universal links, app links) | Yes, every plan | Premium and Enterprise |
| Deferred deep links | Yes, every plan | Not listed on the pricing page we checked |
| Install attribution | Yes, every plan | Install reporting for mobile deep links is listed on Enterprise only |
| Real-time analytics | Yes, every plan | Click analytics on all plans, depth varies by tier |
| SDKs | iOS, Android, React Native, MIT licensed | An SDK for app-linked domains is described in Bitly's support docs |
| Pricing model | Flat monthly plans by click volume, published | Monthly plans by links created, Enterprise by quote |
Two details matter here. Bitly prices by links created per month, so a team with many links pays for volume it creates. WarpLink prices by clicks, so link count does not set the bill. And Bitly's low-cost plans are real products for a different use. They do not include mobile deep links, and that is the gap this post is about.
What a Shortener Does Not Do for a Mobile App
A shortener resolves a short URL to a long one and counts the visit. That is enough for a web campaign. A mobile journey has more steps, and each one can fail without a deep linking layer.
Take a referral link in a text message. The link has to do four things:
- Open the app straight to the right screen if the app is installed.
- Send the user to the App Store or Google Play if it is not.
- After install, open the app on the same screen the link pointed to.
- Tell you which link produced the install.
A shortener alone handles the first step at most, and only when the domain is set up for universal links and app links. Steps two to four need deferred deep linking and install attribution. This is why the question "do I need more than a shortener" has a simple answer: you do, as soon as a link must carry context through an install.
If you want the full background, our deep linking guide covers the mechanics. For the install side, see deferred deep linking on iOS and deferred deep linking on Android.
What Bitly Includes for Mobile, Plan by Plan
Bitly's pricing page, checked October 2026, draws a clear line. The Free plan costs $0 and allows five links a month. Core costs $10 a month, billed annually, with 100 links a month. Growth costs $29 a month billed annually, or $35 billed monthly, with 500 links a month and a custom domain. None of these three includes mobile deep links.
Premium costs $199 a month billed annually, or $300 billed monthly, with 3,000 links a month and mobile deep links. Enterprise is a custom quote. It includes mobile deep links and mobile deep-link reporting, along with high-volume API and webhooks. Bitly's support article on connecting a custom domain to mobile apps describes its SDK for app-linked domains.
Read that carefully, because it is easy to overstate in either direction. Bitly does support mobile deep links. It does not hide that. What the pricing page shows is where: Premium and above. And the reporting of app installs from those links appears only on Enterprise. We did not find deferred deep links listed on the pricing page, so we make no claim about them either way. If you plan to use Bitly for the install journey, ask Bitly sales to confirm what your plan includes before you build on it.
The Install Journey, Compared
Here is the same referral link on both sides. We describe WarpLink from how it works. For Bitly we describe only what its pages list.
With WarpLink
You register your app once. WarpLink generates and hosts the apple-app-site-association and assetlinks.json files for your link host, so universal links and app links work without hand-editing JSON. When someone taps the link:
- If the app is installed, the OS opens it and the SDK hands your code the link payload.
- If the app is not installed, the link routes to the right store, and the payload is held for the install.
- On first open after install, the SDK asks WarpLink to match the install to the earlier tap. The match uses the strongest signal available, in order: install referrer, device identifier, then fingerprint.
- The app opens on the intended screen, and the install is recorded against the link.
The redirect itself resolves at the edge, with sub-10ms redirects, and links never stop redirecting when your plan's click allowance runs out. Free tier overage gates analytics behind an upgrade prompt. It never blocks the link.
With Bitly
On Premium and Enterprise, Bitly's mobile deep links route a tap into an app that is set up for them. Install reporting for those links is listed on Enterprise. For a team on Premium, the pricing page does not list install reporting, so a team on that plan would need another way to count installs by link.
Install Attribution Is the Real Difference
Click counts tell you how many people tapped. Install attribution tells you how many of them became users, and from which link. For a team running creator links, email campaigns, referral programs, and QR codes, that is the number that guides spend.
WarpLink records the match between a click and an install and shows it next to click analytics in the dashboard. You can filter by link, app, and source, and read results in real time. Our post on install attribution without an MMP explains the approach, and install attribution without IDFA covers how matching works on iOS after App Tracking Transparency.
To keep expectations honest: WarpLink is link infrastructure, not a full mobile measurement partner. It does not run SKAdNetwork, ad network integrations, postbacks, or a fraud suite. If your paid acquisition depends on those, you need a measurement partner, and our Branch, AppsFlyer, and Adjust comparisons cover that choice. For owned links, referrals, and campaign sources, WarpLink gives you the install data without that weight.
Pricing: What Each Route Costs
Prices below are as of October 2026 and come from each vendor's published pages.
| Need | Bitly | WarpLink |
|---|---|---|
| Try it for free | Free, five links a month | Free, 10,000 clicks a month, deep linking and attribution included |
| Branded domain | Growth, $29 per month billed annually | Custom domains are part of the plan limits, see pricing |
| Mobile deep links | Premium, $199 per month billed annually, $300 billed monthly | Included from $0 |
| Install reporting for mobile deep links | Enterprise, custom quote | Included from $0 |
| Growth in volume | Higher tiers raise the link allowance | Starter $19 (100K clicks), Growth $49 (500K), Scale $99 (2M), Unlimited $149 (no click ceiling) |
WarpLink's annual billing charges 10 months for 12. That brings Starter to $190 a year, Growth to $490, Scale to $990, and Unlimited to $1,490. On Bitly, the first plan that lists mobile deep links costs $2,388 a year on annual billing. The gap matters most for a small team that needs deep links, not 3,000 links a month of web shortening.
The comparison is not like for like on every row. Bitly's price buys a wider marketing suite along with its deep links. WarpLink's price buys link infrastructure built around the app journey. Which one is cheaper for you depends on whether you would use what Bitly adds.
When Bitly Is the Better Choice
We build link infrastructure for mobile teams, so we are direct about where Bitly wins. Choose Bitly when:
- Your links are mostly web links. If a tap should go to a web page, and the app is not part of the journey, a shortener is the right size. You do not need universal links or an install match.
- QR codes and print are the main channel. Bitly's QR code and campaign workflows are built for marketing teams who design, track, and update codes across materials.
- A marketing team, not an engineering team, owns the links. Bitly's interface and workflows suit people who never touch an SDK.
- You already run Bitly Enterprise. If mobile deep links and install reporting are already in your contract, switching has a cost and the feature set may cover you.
- You need the wider Bitly feature set. Link-in-bio pages, campaign management, and team workflows are part of why teams choose it, and WarpLink does not try to match them.
A mixed setup is also fine. Some teams keep Bitly for web and print campaigns and use WarpLink for every link that must open the app. The two do not conflict, since they live on different domains.
When WarpLink Is the Better Choice
Choose WarpLink when:
- Links must open your app. A product page, an invite, a coupon, or a content item should land on the right screen, not the home screen.
- The user may not have the app yet. Deferred deep links carry the destination through the store visit and the install.
- You want installs by link. Attribution shows which creator, email, or campaign produced users.
- You are a small team. Pricing starts at $0 and every plan includes all three pillars: deep linking, install attribution, and real-time analytics. No sales call is needed to see prices.
- You ship on iOS, Android, or React Native. The SDKs are MIT licensed with zero third-party dependencies, at version 1.1.0.
- You work through code or agents. A REST API and an MCP server manage links, apps, domains, and keys, so link creation can sit in your own workflow.
How to Switch From Bitly to WarpLink
The switch is a six-step process. You can run both products side by side and move campaigns over one channel at a time.
1. List the Bitly links that must open your app
Start with the links that carry app context: emails, referral messages, ads, and QR codes that point to in-app content. Plain web links can stay where they are.
2. Register your app in WarpLink
Sign up, create an organization, and add your app with its iOS bundle ID and team ID, its Android package name and SHA-256 fingerprints, or both. WarpLink creates the AASA and assetlinks.json files and hosts them for your link host. The quickstart walks through it.
3. Add the WarpLink SDK
Add the iOS, Android, or React Native SDK and initialize it with your SDK key. Route incoming links and deferred links through the SDK so cold start, warm start, and first open after install all reach the same handler.
4. Recreate links with deep link targets
Create the matching links in the dashboard, with the REST API, or through the MCP server. For each link, set the web destination, the in-app route, and the store fallbacks. If you use a custom domain, add it in the dashboard and point DNS at WarpLink.
5. Test the full journey
Test on two devices. On one with the app installed, the link should open the right screen. On one without the app, the link should go to the store and, after install, open the same screen. Check that the install appears against the link in analytics.
6. Move campaigns and read the data
Swap the new links into campaigns one channel at a time. Old Bitly links keep working on Bitly, so nothing breaks while you move. Use real-time analytics and install attribution to confirm each channel reports opens and installs before you retire the old links.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best Bitly alternative for mobile deep linking?
WarpLink is a strong Bitly alternative when links must open your app, survive the install, and report installs. It includes universal links, app links, deferred deep links, install attribution, and real-time analytics from a $0 plan, with SDKs for iOS, Android, and React Native. Bitly remains the better fit for web short links and QR codes.
Does Bitly support mobile deep links?
Yes, on higher tiers. Bitly's pricing page, as of October 2026, lists mobile deep links on Premium at $199 per month billed annually, or $300 billed monthly, and on Enterprise. The Free, Core, and Growth plans do not include them. Reporting of app installs from mobile deep links is listed only on Enterprise, which is a custom quote.
How much does Bitly cost compared with WarpLink?
As of October 2026, Bitly runs from a Free plan with five links a month, to Core at $10 a month billed annually, Growth at $29, and Premium at $199, all on annual billing. WarpLink starts free with 10,000 clicks a month, then $19, $49, $99, and $149 a month. Deep linking and install attribution are in every WarpLink plan.
Can WarpLink replace Bitly for QR codes and branded short links?
WarpLink supports short links, custom domains, and links you can print as QR codes, so a team can run both web and app journeys from one link. It is not a marketing suite. If your main work is QR code design, campaign pages, and link-in-bio pages for a marketing team, Bitly's workflow tools are broader and a better match.
Do I need install attribution if I already use Bitly?
You need it if you want to know which link produced an install. A shortener counts clicks, but a click is not an install. Install attribution connects the tap to the first app open, even after a store visit. That lets you see which campaign, creator, or channel brought real users, not only traffic.
How long does it take to switch from Bitly to WarpLink?
Most teams finish in an afternoon. You register your app, add the SDK, recreate your links through the dashboard, API, or MCP server, and point a custom domain at WarpLink if you use one. Old Bitly links keep resolving on Bitly until you retire them, so you can move campaigns over gradually.
